Rider at OMAR Round 1

April 10, 2010 – Round 1 of the Lucas Oil Midwest Extreme Dirt Track series kicked off with perfect weather, a beautiful facility, good friends, and great racing. It was pretty clear that all in attendance were ready to fire up the machines and get back to another fun and exciting year of MWEDT racing. We all want to thank Roy, Loni, Wyatt, and Seth Reed, David Webb, and the rest of the crew at OMAR for their hard work in prepping the track and taking care of us racers and fans one more time. A special thanks goes out to Kurt Tweedy also for stepping in and handling announcing duties on race day.

Racing got started with the 90 stock class. #11 Blake Casteel was the race winner with Duce Giamalva, #88, in second and #22 Hayden Mckinney taking third. The 90 production class also saw some fast, action-packed racing with Maximum RPM's Kyler Seabaugh taking the win over #09 Reece York, while #4 Dean Hayden rounded out the top 3.

The Knobby Novice class is always exciting, and the racing action at Round 1 was no exception. #415 Shay Cordin took the win for the day while #113 Zach Lazen came in second and #14 took third. The overall winner for the 200 – 400 Air Cooled class came all the way from Michigan to compete. #6 Tyler Deister will be competing in EDT nationals for 2010 and wanted to check out the competition here in the Midwest. Tyler took first overall in the class aboard his Raptor 250 with #502 Bobby Chore in 2nd and #291 Brett Limke took third.

Production C was the largest class of the day with 12 riders starting the class main. Taking the win was #66 Tristen McElyea, followed closely by #378 Jeremy Hobson in second place and #18 Christian Lindsey rounding out the top 3.

At the top of the amateur ranks is the Production A class. Roberts Racing's #48 Bailey Williams grabbed the holeshot to start the event, but stalled her machine in the early stages of the race. #222 Wesley White took over first place and stayed in front to the checkered flag. H&H Extreme's Bryan Buso, #731, kept the pace with White throughout the race and finished a close second. H&H Extreme's Luke Kates finished third.

Of course the race day is never complete until the Pro's take to the track. Roberts Racing's Michael Coburn, #038, came all the way from South Dakota to compete with the Midwest's best pro riders. Coburn, the 2009 ATVA National Pro Champion and 2009 Pikes Peak record holder, had his work cut out for him as returning MWEDT 2009 Pro Class Champion and H&H Extreme rider Josh Hibdon is back in 2010 to defend his MWEDT title. Also stepping up to the Pro class for 2010 is H&H Extreme rider Colt Loshbaugh, the 2009 MWEDT Pro-Am class champion. After 15 exciting laps of racing, the holeshot and race win went to #038 Michael Coburn with #24 Josh Hibdon finishing second and #2 Colt Loshbaugh in third.

Shared by many in attendance at Ava, Round 1 of the MWEDT 2010 series set the stage for what should be an exciting year of racing. Round 2 at SEMO Raceway in Sikeston, MO looks to be even bigger and better as the SEMO track enjoys a very loyal following of regulars in the area that are looking forward to the challenge of non-regulars coming to their track. The SEMO track is smaller than OMAR, but is owned and operated by some top notch people that are looking to put on a premier event for the MWEDT series. Mark the date on your calendars, May 22, for Round 2. Check the Forums as information will be appearing soon regarding Friday practice and race day events and times. We look forward to seeing all at Round 2.

May 22, 2010 – Round 2 of the Lucas Oil Midwest Extreme Dirt Track series was held Saturday, May 22, at SEMO Raceway in Sikeston, MO. This was the first time the MWEDT Series has visited the SEMO track, and by all accounts riders and spectators alike were impressed with the racing facility as well as the hospitality of the track owners, Rob and Susan Cooksey, and the race promoter, Jayme Medlin. A special thanks goes out to Rob and Susan, as well as Jayme and Kelly Medlin, and all SEMO track workers for their hard work in putting this event together. Some race participants were still arriving by the time practice started, and by the time signup had closed well over 160 participants had registered to race. This was an incredible turnout, far exceeding expectations, and provided for a great night of competitive racing action in several classes for both riders and spectators.

Pro and Pro-Am Main Events

The SEMO track is home to several Pro and ProAm riders from the area, as Nathan Wolff, Trent Powell, Branden Sullenger, and others came out to match skills with the Midwest's other top Pro riders, Josh Hibdon and Colt Loshbaugh. As the racing action began, H&H Extreme's Colter Loshbaugh grabbed the holeshot with Trent Powell, Nathan Wolff, Josh Hibdon, and the rest of the class following close behind. As they dove down on the TT portion of the track, Loshbaugh would stay in front, followed by Powell, Wolff, and Hibdon. The class would stay in this order until an accident involving Tanner Young and Zach Thweatt stopped the racing action. A single file restart ensued, and Loshbaugh once again would take the lead. Colt would go on to win the race, followed by Powell and Wolff to complete the podium positions. Racing action was amped up a few notches as Trent Powell would lose his exhaust baffle towards the end of the race and blow a steady stream of sparks and flames out his exhaust for the final laps of the race.

The ProAm class consisted of 11 riders in the main event, allowing for the class to qualify for the Hoosier Racing Tire contingency program. Nathan Wolff grabbed the holeshot off the starting line and led the race from start to finish. Congratulations to Nathan for winning a set of Hoosier tires as well as the race win. Second place would go to Zach Thweat, who held second place for most, if not all, of the race. For his efforts, Zach would also win one race tire from Hoosier. Rounding out the ProAm podium positions was Colter Losbaugh, who finished in third place. As with the Pro class event, it was great to see a full field of riders for the ProAm class which made for terrific racing action.

Amateur Race Events

Rider at Sikeston RD 2

The night’s large turnout was especially noted in many of the amateur race classes, particularly in the Production B and Production C classes which each had close to 20 riders. With this many riders, racing action was bound to be exciting and both classes delivered on this note.

The Production B class would include seven MWEDT riders from Round 1 that followed the series down to SEMO to match racing skills with SEMO’s local amateurs. After eight very exciting laps, H&H Extreme’s Jeff Hoffmaster would come back from a not-so-great heat race to take the win in the main event. With the win, Jeff takes over the points lead in the Production B class. H&H Extreme’s Billy Pearce rode a great race as well to take second place, followed by #77 Ethan Proctor in third. The Production B class looks to be a good, competitive class this year and the points battle should go down to the final round.

The Production A class is another very competitive class in the 2010 season. The class includes several riders that have jumped up to the A level for 2010, and have carried the competitiveness with them to this level. Jordan Clemons and Brandon Holmes would take the heat race wins, but when the light went green on the main event, Daniel Chepkauskas of Oklahoma of jump out to the race lead and lead the event to the checkered flag. Bryan Buso came home in second place followed by Jordan Clemons in third. With two second places, Bryan Buso takes over the points lead with Daniel Chepkauskas and Wesley White within striking range in second and third, respectively.

Rider at Sikeston RD 2

The age bracket classes were well represented at SEMO, with two rows of riders in all main events for the 14-24 year class, +25 class, and the +35 class. Good racing action took place in all, and as the checkered flag waived, Jordan Clemons would come home in first place for the 14-24 age class, John Carlton would win the +25 class, and Jeff Roberts would take home the overall win in the +35 class.

The Women’s class would see the top three riders from the Ava round take their act to SEMO to match skills with probably the strongest female rider in the region, Bethany Barrett. Bailey Williams grabbed the holeshot and led the race from beginning to end. Darion Keister put together another strong ride, bringing home second place. Bethany would finish third while Ashley Schafer would finish fourth. After two rounds, Bailey sits in the top points position followed by Darion and Ashley in second and third, respectively.

Rider at Sikeston RD 2

Youth classes were well represented at the SEMO round, and Garrett Keister was consistent in taking the wins in the 200 / 400 and 90 Modified classes. Luke Sadler would take the win in the 90 Stock class while Alex Wells won the 50cc class.

Round 3 of the MWEDT series heads to the north side of the state as riders will descend upon Trenton, MO on June 12. The race is being promoted by Steve Nace Racing Productions, a promoter with lots of experience in dirt track racing. We’re really looking forward to the Trenton round and what should be a very large spectator crowd for this event. The race will be held at the Trenton Fairgrounds, located in the center of town. Check the Forums as information will be appearing soon regarding and race day events and times. We look forward to seeing all at Round 3.

TRENTON FAIRGROUNDS

July 17, 2010 – Round 3 of the Lucas Oil Midwest Extreme Dirt Track series was held Saturday, July 17, at the Trenton, MO Fairgrounds. The Trenton race was the first time the MWEDT series has visited the City of Trenton, and was only the second time an ATV race has been held at the fairground facility. The race attracted a good rider turnout as 108 total rider entries were signed up to participate. The Trenton track, while small, was very technical and required all riders to exercise optimum control of their machines to keep their quads on the track and out of the infield. The fairground facility included a terrific spectator area, and over 350 spectators came to watch the racing action in addition to the riders and spectators in the pit area. The MWEDT wants to extend a hearty thanks to the special efforts of Roy Ferguson, Troy Williams, Ralph Boots and others of the Trenton Park Board for the dedication in bringing our series to Trenton and more importantly for putting their time and energy into building the track. We also want to thank all the family and volunteers who helped out with scoring, rider entry and sign up, gate entry, flagging, and staging during the day.

PRO AND PRO-AM MAIN EVENTS

Rider at Trenton RD 3

Pro and ProAm classes provided terrific racing action for the night. H&H Extreme’s Josh Hibdon, Colt Loshbaugh, and Tanner Young were the standard bearers in both classes, but Danny McGraw also showed up for the Trenton round to go after the big purses put up for each class by the City of Trenton. In total, the City kicked in $400 and $300 to the winner of each of the Pro and ProAm classes, so the stage was set for some hard riding and all out action as the riders let it all hang out. For the Pro class action, Danny McGraw would grab the holeshot and lead the race from beginning to end. Colt Loshbaugh was second off the line and stayed in this positon for a better part of the race. Josh Hibdon was not to be denied, however, as he took over second place about midway through the 15 lap main event and set his sites on McGraw. Hibdon closed the gap considerably as the race wound down, but at the end came up short by several bike lengths as it was Danny McGraw holding on for the race win and taking home the night’s big payday.

In the ProAm class, Josh Hibdon grabbed the holeshot followed by Colt Loshbaugh, Danny McGraw, Tanner Young, and Bobby Choate. Hibdon led from start to finish while the battle was going on behind him between Loshbaugh and McGraw. The two would run bumper to bumper for most of the race before tangling in the hairpin turn before the table top. This opened the door for Tanner Young, following closely behind in fourth place, to move up to second place. Young would go on to take second followed by Loshbaugh and McGraw in third and fourth, respectively, with Bobby Choate finishing in fifth place.

After three rounds, Colt Loshbaugh sits on top of both the Pro and ProAm classes. However, there is still lots of racing action remaining in the season, and less than 5 points separate first and second place in both classes. The remaining races in the season should be full of great racing excitement as we visit some tracks in the remaining rounds where all series riders have lots of racing experience and have performed very well.

AMATEUR RACE EVENTS

Rider at Trenton RD 3

While some series regulars did not make the trip north, the amateur classes were still well represented at Trenton. The Production B class once again had the largest rider entries at 11 entries, and on a tight track like the Trenton track, the competition was particularly exciting and close. Roberts Racing’s Josh Schafer put together a tremendous effort from start to finish, grabbing the main event holeshot and leading the race from beginning to end. Josh looked very comfortable on the tight Trenton track, and was never challenged for the lead. H&H Extreme’s Lukas Reeves also pulled together a strong performance in the Production B class. After starting in mid-pack, Lukas had to work his way up to the second position in the race – not an easy challenge considering limited passing opportunities on the track. Both riders’ results were very important in the overall season points race, and moved Josh into a tie for second with H&H Extreme’s Billy Pearce while Lukas now sits alone in third spot. Jeff Hoffmaster continues to lead the Production B points race, but only by one point heading into Round 4. Justin Skipper would bring home a third place finish at Trenton to round out the Production B podium results.

Production C was another full class, bringing eight riders to the main event. Jeremy Hobson put together another great ride to finish first in the class. Josh Freeman and Dusty Goppert would finish second and third for the night to round out the podium. Jeremy leads the season points battle by a wide margin at 85 points. However, one bad night could seriously tighten up the points battle as Christian Lindsey sits in second place with 61 points.

Rider at Trenton RD 3

The Production A class provided terrific racing action for the night as well. With only 5 riders in the main event, all riders were nose to tail throughout the 10 lap main event. Roberts Racing’s Bailey Shea Williams grabbed the holeshot going into turn one followed closely by Jordan Clemons, another Roberts Racing rider. Jamie Mathes was on Clemons’s grab bar off the start followed closely by David East and H&H Extreme’s Bryan Buso. The front three put a little distance between them and fourth place as the laps wound down, but still raced bumper to bumper to the checkered flag. At the end, Williams took first place for the night followed by Clemons and Mathes to finish up the podium spots. At the season mid-point, Bryan Buso leads the points race with 66 points while Jordan Clemons is close behind with 61 points and Bailey Williams is third with 60 points. This class should provide lots of excitement through the remaining rounds as well as one bad race could end a points title for any one of the 3 riders.

Probably the best entertainment of the night came from the Knobby Novice class. Many local riders came to the Trenton round to test their skills on a closed circuit track. Because of the large turnout in the class, the class was divided between 450cc quads and 400cc quads. Both classes still had 9 or more riders in the class. At the end of the night, Clint Berry would win the 450cc class while Josh Cranmer would take home the 400cc class win.

Round 4 of the MWEDT series heads to the middle of Missouri as riders will descend upon Versailles, MO on August 7th to once again put their skills to the test. While the MWEDT series has been to Versailles in past years, the track has a fairly loyal local following as well. So a big turnout is expected for the night’s race. Race times for the Versailles race will be as follows:

Gates open @ 12:00 noon.

Sign up from 12:00 – 4:00

Practice begins @ 3:00 – 5:00

Heats Following Practice

Hope to see everyone at Versailles.
